Israeli President Isaac Herzog plans to recommend four passengers of a flydubai flight for the Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism, following their decisive actions during a mid-flight emergency. The passengers—Yaniv Hayoun, Dr. Shota Musayev, Zvika Manes, and Asaf Rajuan—played key roles in averting a potential disaster when an altercation erupted between the pilots on a flight from Dubai to Israel.

The incident reportedly began when one pilot attacked the other, resulting in injuries. Hayoun, Manes, and Rajuan swiftly intervened to subdue the attacker, with Hayoun stepping in to assist with the aircraft’s controls. Meanwhile, Dr. Musayev provided crucial medical assistance to the injured pilot, ensuring his condition was stabilized until the plane could make an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.

President Herzog commended the passengers for their bravery and quick thinking, which he credited with safeguarding the lives of all aboard the aircraft. He expressed gratitude towards the Indian captain, Smit Machchhar, for his conduct during the crisis as well. Herzog intends to present the details of the passengers’ actions to the advisory committee that considers candidates for the Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism.

This recognition comes as a testament to the courage and collaborative effort displayed during the flight, highlighting the critical role civilians can play in managing emergencies and protecting others in dire situations.
