Ukrainian Drones Target Moscow Amid Russian Election Day

by admin477351

Ukraine launched a significant drone offensive against Russia overnight, targeting key sites across the country, including the capital, Moscow. According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, the assault represents the largest drone attack on the city to date, with approximately 450 drones intercepted in the vicinity. The offensive resulted in damage to the Moscow Oil Refinery and a residential building, while in the broader Moscow region, two fatalities and 20 injuries were reported by local authorities.

This wave of attacks, numbering over 1,000 drones, also extended to other regions such as Crimea and the Black Sea, with the Russian Defense Ministry reporting that 1,110 drones were neutralized. The timing of the strikes coincided with the final day of Russia’s parliamentary elections, an event that Ukraine has denounced as illegal, particularly in territories occupied and claimed by Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the operation involved both drones and domestically manufactured weapons, targeting oil and logistics facilities critical to Russia’s wartime economy. He emphasized that the strikes were strategically focused on undermining resources that support Russia’s military efforts.

The incident underscores the escalating drone warfare between the two nations, with both sides increasingly targeting infrastructure and military installations far from the immediate conflict zones. As these long-range attacks intensify, the focus on disrupting each other’s logistical and economic capabilities continues to drive the conflict beyond traditional battlefield engagement.
