Vietnam and Israel have announced plans to fast-track the implementation of their free trade agreement, aiming to enhance collaboration in trade, industry, and innovation as economic relations between the two countries continue to strengthen. This decision was reached during a meeting in Jerusalem between the Vietnamese ambassador to Israel and Israel’s Minister of Economy and Industry, where both parties highlighted the Vietnam–Israel Free Trade Agreement (VIFTA) as a crucial tool for fostering further economic growth.
The economic partnership between Vietnam and Israel is experiencing significant momentum, with bilateral trade hitting approximately $3.63 billion last year. In just the first five months of this year, trade figures have already approached $1.6 billion. Vietnam’s exports to Israel have seen a notable increase compared to the same period last year, suggesting that the country is on track to surpass $1 billion in exports to Israel for the first time, contingent on maintaining current growth levels.
Key factors contributing to this surge include robust market demand and improved access facilitated by the free trade agreement, which officially came into effect in late 2024. The agreement has provided new opportunities for Vietnamese products in the Israeli market, boosting trade figures significantly.
Israel has expressed interest in leveraging its expertise in sectors such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, medical technology, and advanced agriculture to foster greater business cooperation and investment opportunities with Vietnam. The Israeli government is keen on exploring these avenues to strengthen ties and create mutually beneficial economic exchanges.
To capitalize on the benefits of the free trade agreement, both nations have agreed to ensure closer coordination among their respective agencies and businesses. This enhanced cooperation aims to fully utilize the opportunities presented by the trade deal, further expanding their economic relations and reinforcing the already strong trade partnership between Vietnam and Israel.
