Google is expanding its engineering presence in Israel with the launch of a new team dedicated to developing artificial intelligence (AI) chips for edge devices, including robots and autonomous systems. The initiative will be spearheaded by Guy Kaminitz, a former executive at Israeli AI chipmaker Hailo, who will serve as the head of silicon engineering.
The tech giant is actively recruiting dozens of engineers to fill various positions, such as chip validation, physical design, verification, automation, and machine-learning hardware architecture. This new team will focus on creating Edge AI processors, which enable AI applications to function directly on devices rather than relying solely on cloud computing.
This strategic move is part of Google’s broader commitment to enhancing its chip design and development capabilities in Israel, a journey it embarked on in 2021. By leveraging local talent, Google aims to advance technologies that support a range of connected devices, including drones, autonomous vehicles, industrial systems, and smart cameras.
Google has maintained a significant research and development footprint in Israel since 2005, with teams working on various cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, and machine perception. This latest expansion underscores Google’s ongoing investment in the region’s growing tech landscape.
